High rankings on Google, Yahoo, Bing (MSN) and other major search engines are crucial to the success of any online business.  But many people ask me 'How do you achieve this?'

A search engine optimisation method that really works is to analyze the web pages that currently have a high ranking for your important keyword.  Since these pages already have a top 10 ranking, then surely they must be doing something right?  Analysing competitors gives you an insight into what is required to make your pages achieve top results.  At the same time, you may be able to detect flaws in their SEO approach, and by implementing a new (or better) technique in your pages just might be that competitive advantage your pages require to trump your competitors!

In essence, a good SEO consultant has been performing SEO for many years.  This means that they have seen many different types of businesses, and have been exposed to many different types of SEO techniques, during a time when search engine algorithms have been an ever changing, dynamic game to master.  Remember, optimising your pages is not just a once-off act - because the web is a dynamically changing medium, search engine optimisation will also continue to be a shifting field too.  Your website needs to be continually optimised to attract, and then maintain, top rankings within the search engines.
